Elise's Circle of Intuitive Friends

A supportive community for intuitive people!

Meditation is a very personal thing. When my Empath and Intuitive skills went "live", I was overwhelmed with information and soooooooooooooo many people recommended meditation.

But I hated meditation...No kidding! Just sitting there, trying not to think of pink elephants. It was like a refined form of torture and, worst of all, oh so boring...

The answer came from one of my Spirit Guides one day. He suggested I try a mediation that involved watching movies. Huh? Does that count, I wondered... Since then, my guides have come up with all kinds of unusual meditation techniques that work for me, and now I love it.

Since I am an engineer, things make sense to me when they have a purpose. In my life, meditation is an processing activity, like a computer that needs some time to open up Word or to connect to the Internet. Computers also needs processing time when turning off, to cleanly organize all the new data that has been created.

When I meditate, I keep my left brain out of the way so that my right brain can process all the information I've been receiving (the right brain handles creative, intuitive and abstract data). When I'm done, my mind-computer is responsive again and I'm not just staring at the little hourglass, waiting for the processing to complete before I get my answer!

These are my two favorite meditations techniques. Try them out and feel free to tweak them! Remember that meditation is supposed to feel good.

The Movie Meditation:

1) Select a movie and set your intention to "meditate" while you are watching it.

2) As soon as you start watching, your brain will do what needs to be done to start processing. Even if you don't know what that involves, your brain does! Just like your brain knows how to keep your body functioning while you think of something else.

Movies are great because they keep your left brain busy, leaving the right brain free to go in processing mode. This is a lot easier than trying to turn down your left brain!

3) After the movie, take a moment to "reboot" your mind-computer. Do you get a message? What thoughts pop into your mind? This is a great time for profoundly creative ideas to come up so make sure you're listening! And take notes, if you feel so inclined! They'll be priceless!

The Cat Meditation

You know how some people take "cat naps"? A few minutes here and there and they're all refreshed! I've noticed that processing doesn't have to be done all at once in a gruesome 1 hour session. Your brain always knows where it left off processing and it can continue at any time!

The Cat Meditation is a series of very short meditations (and by short I mean that 5 seconds is enough!) that you can easily do without needing to stop the flow of your day. Over time, I have found that I was yearning for longer processing time without ever having to force it.

1) In the Cat Meditation, you're actually turning down your left brain for a brief period. This is different than the Movie Meditation, where you keep your left brain busy in order to facilitate processing. To do this, just imagine a blank screen in your mind. Like you're watching a movie screen but the movie hasn't started yet.

2) Keep it short! For most of us, it won't be long before you start seeing thing (or hearing things) on your blank screen. By then, your left brain has started being active again so you're done!

tip: If you can't keep the screen blank (it's ok, I had a hard time with that at first), try counting to 10. Your left brain might be more willing to stay quiet if you give it a little something to do at first.

3) Here are some great ways to practice this:
- Do a Cat Meditation while reading a book each time you turn a page
- Do a Cat Meditation while watching TV on the first commercial (mute the TV first!)
- Do a Cat Meditation when you get in the car every morning
- Do a Cat Meditation when you start to brush your teeth!
Enjoy!

Hi Elise

When I visualised the blank screen - I was expecting it to stay blank lol - it didn't - A hive of activity started - like watching the news - only it was lots of people running around doing there normal business but in a rush or something. I didn't quiet understand it?

Anyway - just a little feedback for you

LOL, that's great feedback. Actually, that's why I keep those meditation so short...because I'm not expecting the screen to remain black for very long. The left brain kicks in very quickly and it does take a lot of practice to empty that space for the right brain.

The trick is to keep clearing it, again and again. Even for 5 seconds, you might have to "wipe it clean" a few times! Keep in mind that our lives are dominated by our left brain functions. So it tends to throw a tantrum when you try to take the microphone away from it...

The right brain on the other hand is used to be shoved aside. So it takes time to both teach the left brain to quiet down and encourage the right brain to speak up!

I hope that made sense...I have a lot of analogies in there :)

Okay - so I tried that - I cleared it when the activity started - I was delighted to see how quickly it cleared - to be honest it was like taking your power back and in another way - setting boundaries - I visualise that I am in a cinema

[Everytime I try to share something - these thoughts come into my head - start berating myself that I am taking advantage of you or get scared sharing what works for me in case you take advantage of me - I have huge issues with this - e.g. In my family, at the moment when I showed concern for the wellbeing of a family member taking on too must - they were exhausted - this person took my concern as an indication that they could allieviate their excessive load onto me instead of saying no to others. I just wanted to apologise, I would hate for you to feel this - because you are offering so much to us and I want to give back just as openly, in other words, I would hate for you to be affected by my stuff. This is something that exhausts me - constantly screening myself and my thoughts and my actions for fear of hurting or taking advantage of others. I believe that I have this issue because I always gave away everything of myself to help others and now I feel completely depleted - not able to give to others as I used to - scared of being sucked dry - it takes a lot of my energy to hold the above boundary with all my family members and I believe that I have to set boundaries with my energy too - I think this visualisation is going to help me a great deal with that. I am also doing your eft video on trust and I will give you feedback on that too.]

Anyway - I visualise being in a cinema, you know when the screen is blank when waiting for a film to start. The biggest feeling was one of regaining control - the thing that amazes me the most is that it was so easy to regain. I found it relaxing and the quietness and peace was something that I normally only get when on a mountain somewhere or by the sea - remote nature. It's fantastic that now I don't have to travel miles to get to a place of calm - I can just visualise a blank screen

Hi Star,

So here's a long answer to your comment :)

I do appreciate your authenticity in sharing your feelings about posting here, being afraid that you're asking for too much or that you're taking advantage of me. But this is one of those great situation where you don't have to worry about it for my sake, and you can just focus on clearing up the issue on your end.

Abraham-Hicks always says that "allowing" (or in this case receive help) is the hardest thing we are faced with in the process of manifestation. We've been taught that it's not ok to ask for help. It's a very powerful and often subconscious belief.

But when we hold it back, waiting and waiting, we end up unloading on others like you describe others doing to you...Because our need is so great that there's a rush for the door.

I love my two ning communities because, over time, they spread the sources of help across many different people. So there's always someone there to answer questions, but it's not always the same someone.

Also, my own Spirit Guides are very strict about monitoring my energy reserves. If I do too much, they just shut me down. So I never have to worry about it...

Finally, I only post in my forums when it's fun and interesting to me. I don't need this to make a living which gives me amazing freedom in making choices. For some reason that is not fully clear to me, I have not felt inspired to get more clients for one on one sessions. Instead, I feel the urge to build those online communities where everyone can contribute.

All that to say that I strongly encourage you post to your heart's content, exploring along the way how you can expand your ability to receive, not just from me but from any kind of source!

in love

Hi!

I am just learning to meditate. I never liked to meditate because I just couldn't clear my mind, I would try but all I got was monkey chatter and I would then get frustrated. I couldn't figure out how to think about nothing, I am usually thinking about 15 things at once.

However, I recently found 2 ways that work for me, or it is a start at least.

1) Count to 50 ( you can pick any number you want). I usually do this when I am trying to fall asleep. Its very simple... start counting to 50 (or count from 50 backwards to 1) slowly, if you find your mind wandering... go back and start at 1, do this until you reach your magic number or you fall asleep, whichever comes first.

2) Use a Koan. A Koan is a story, dialogue, question, or statement in the history and lore of Chán (Zen) Buddhism, generally containing aspects that are inaccessible to rational understanding, yet may be accessible to intuition.

A famous kōan is: "Two hands clap and there is a sound; what is the sound of one hand?" or "make a tea pot walk across the room". I like to think of koans as questions without answers, they don't have to be complicated and should not result in stress. In fact, they can be pretty much anything you want them to be, their purpose is to engage and focus the mind on a single thought, question, etc. Don't stress yourself out trying to think of one, there are books and google, and don't forget about the age old questions either... "If a tree falls and there is no one around, does it make a sound?", "What is the meaning of life?" or "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" (ha ha).

I hope one of these will help someone, even a little... I have a difficult time with visualization and they worked well for me.
