I really struggled with the concept of "The Easy Way". It seemed like the exact opposite of everything I've been taught or thought.
I've been writing a little book and illustrating it with pictures from the Victorian era of America's Old West. It's tough going, in fact its been a real pain trying to get it done.
And I was thinking "Well you're already planning another book set in Victorian London! If you're having so much trouble drawing woman in Victorian dress now, how are you going to cope the next time round?"
Then I had a flash of insight -
the easy way is to draw black silhouettes of the women. So you can see the outline of their hats, parasols, dresses, and their posture. You would glance at it and instantly identify it as Victorian. And I realised that well done silhouettes would actually
look better than fully detailed drawings. And it would be oh so much quicker to do. The
easy way is the
better way. I'm actually looking forward to finishing this one and getting onto the next one so I can get started on them.
I'm stunned.
